I noticed that in the Carl videos as well. I was wondering what would happen if the cards were mixed up. Like you, I felt he had just memorized the letter patterns instead of actually reading what was written on the card - especially because he didn't realize when he made a mistake, he confused a "th-" word with one he had already read, and was just shuffling through them. I think repetition of topics and ideas can be very beneficial but I felt for this activity it wasn't helping like it probably did when it was first introduced.

    I think that repetition can be a very useful skill in learning new things but I think that it is imperative that the repetition have some sort of thought behind it and is not just mindless... more
