I like what you had to say about how important it is to know a student and their interests, but not to let that hinder their learning experience. Odds are the child already knows a lot about the topic if it is something they are interested in, so it is a good idea to branch off from that. I think that this would also keep the students stimulated and engaged if they are being presented interesting information related to their topic of interest.
