This is a great idea! It might even work to use less favorable interests to facilitate learning first and then move on to other smaller interests or the number one interest, if the teacher finds it useful. This way if the student grows and the interest does not become a distraction rather than an aid, then the student might be able to handle exploring their number one interest at school. If using smaller interests eventually backfires and hinders learning then it will be easier to take it away than it would be to take away a number one interest.
