I like how you connected the Smith article to Carnahan article. It also stated that students with autism are lacking the ability to understand anotherís feeling and may not understand why a person acts the way they do in a situations. I think your idea of having read alouds to these students could help assist them in understanding the reasoning of characters and the stories deeper meaning. I see the value of read alouds in all grade levels. I think if read alouds were practiced in upper grades, there could be a sense of community around a story because there would be a stronger connection to the story. There could be many different types of interaction with a story that is read aloud. They could hear unfamiliar words and discuss the meaning behind them because when we read to ourselves, we often skip over words we do not know. I think it could be beneficial for all students no matter what grade.
