I totally agree with you. I love what you said about paying attention to the details that our students do rather than always focusing on the bigger picture or the class a whole. I think as a future special educator I am stressing about meeting all the goals that the IEP team will develop for each student. I'm wondering how in the world I am going to be able to work towards all those different goals for all of my different students. I think as a teacher we need to carve out time to get to know our students apart from their school life. I want to know my students interests not only in relation to academics but to other hobbies as well. I think we need to encourage all interest of our students so that we can truly understand the best and most effective way to teach them.
