Jordan, you are so right when it comes to the importance of patience. Not only is this key to helping our students achieve success, but in allowing ourselves the time to figure out how the best learn and understand. Comprehension is critical to reading success, and can be so tricky for students with ASD. I worked with a student one time that made up for reading challeneges by memorizing words - which proved a real struggle when presented with nonsense, rule following words. This student was brilliant, and I often thought he was so much smarter than me! But his reading disability made it hard for him to read unfamiliar words. Students with ASD seem to have a similar struggle and its so important for us to know how thet best learn in order to reach them where they're at.
