I think the message you took away from the videos and the articles is one of extreme importance, Ali. The speakers and authors almost all mentioned how differently the minds of individuals with ASD really work and how they understand and see things differently from the general population. This is significant in many ways. In reading instruction, we can't necessarily use the same tactics and methods we know. We will have to adapt. What those new adapted methods are, I don't yet know. I'm determined to find out, though. It is also significant when working with individuals with ASD in all areas of life. They don't understand things as we understand them; it is up to us to learn how the minds of our students work. Only then can we effectively engage with them in the classroom and outside the class.
