This is a very interesting point that you brought up. I've always known how big of an effect early introductions to texts have on literacy development for children. Even when children cannot read at an early age they can learn concepts about print by being read to, and it makes a huge difference in their literacy growth. When students are read to frequently prior to beginning Kindergarden they have a head start when compared to the other students. This is a big deal for any child. But, I can imagine that it has an even greater affect on the gap between literacy and ASD students.
