Names are self
Wed Jun 3, 2015 16:37

I think that writing one's name is important because it is an easy thing to relate to the idea that words have meaning. A child's name represents them and is one of the first words that they learn. By putting it in writing and showing them that the written word connects to themselves, something they are definitely familiar with, it shows that writing has meaning. Helping them to write the name on their own helps them to understand that they can convey this meaning on their own, and that writing is not just something that will appear for them but something that they can produce.
