Adding to the discussion about teaching generalization when it comes to logo reading, I learned that students can carry logos of places like the grocery store and visual cards with text of items with them on note cards to aid in connecting text with objects. Correct me if I'm wrong but I learned that many times it is difficult for the student to associate text that he or she learn in class with the corresponding object outside of school. This strategy can help with generalization. For example a logo of Food Lion at school might not connect when they go to the actual grocery store, but carrying around visual cards of text including logos can help make connections.
