Language Experience Approach

I am so glad that you mentioned the language experience approach! These are my favorite actives to use with the students. My group, “Elem. Educators,” created our lesson plan using the language experience approach. You should definitely take a look at it. It’s a fun way to engage the students reading and writing. The way that we have it set up in our lesson is that the teacher begins the class discussion covering what their shared experience is. The teacher will then ask specific questions to give the students a chance to answer the questions while forming the short, three line story that they will work towards memorizing. Once the students have memorized it, they will be able to “read” along while the teacher points to each word. I love this type of lesson!

That's a good question! Maybe you could target different interests by contrasting the experience and product - if one student didn't enjoy the shared experience, you could make a product that will... more

I personally really like the idea of an LEA. This makes learning important to the child, and the child will actually want to learn. There is also some good material that the student can learn from... more
