As I was reading your reply, I wondered why the idea of modeling never occurred in the writing lessons I learned as a young student. Teachers modeled how to solve mathematical questions, conduct a science experiment, and read a story with prosody. Modeling is the key to developing future writers and allowing all students to create literature. When I was student teaching(1995), the writer's workshop was the instructional piece one of the classrooms I worked in utilized. The teacher had a set number of students that she met with each day. The number varied from class to class, but the average was five a day. The class was seventy-five minutes in length and the teacher also had time to assist students with other various writing needs. This model was in a middle school classroom. Do you believe the number would need to be changed to guide younger students?
