I think it's great how you pointed out the fact that GOs can be used in basically any grade. You're using them in first grade, and we're using them in a grad course. This shows that GOs are a very versatile tool that can be used to get to true comprehension of almost any concept.

I hadn't thought of how GOs are used in math until you mentioned how you use them to represent numbers. I'm using EUREKA Math this year, and we've started using tape diagrams to represent and label parts of numbers with multiplication and division. Until reading these passages and joining this discussion I hadn't thought of these diagrams as GOs, but that's truly what they are.

Also, I love the idea of using the thinking maps on their iPads for guided reading. I really think that would help take students' comprehension to a whole new level. I've used GOs in this way before, but not on their iPads, which I'm sure is much more engaging.

        I downloaded the free kidspirations maps app. I have worked on it myself and plan to try it with kids next week. So far it seems user friendly.
