I love the dance mat typing site! I have heard of it, but have never sat down and used it! I could definitely see myself using it with elementary kids if we had computers for them to type on. When we moved schools all of our computers that we had in the classroom and computer lab were not brought to the new school. We have a cart of Macbooks that are used in the upper elementary classrooms most of the time. Actually, they haven't been working and take lots of time to get started because the kids have to log in and it seems to change the username and password quite frequently. There were many times I would want to use them in my classroom and would get them set up only to find that they had logged out or just wouldn't work at all.
If I had a few computers in my classroom, I would definitely have students use to the dance mat typing page. I was thinking of doing it on the Smart Board and having the printable/paper keyboard on computer paper that I have used in the past. It wouldn't be quite as effective without the feedback, but without actual keyboards I think it would be the best we could do.
I also liked the first website. It was more kid friendly than the other pages and seemed to have a little bit of the lessons like the dance mat typing but just not the oral character component.
I tried out some of the other sites and was not very good at typing at all! I was not taught keyboarding skills in school. I definitely could "relearn" some finger placement.
I plan on trying the dance mat typing and possibly the site with some of the older elementary students.
