This all has made me so much more aware of how important it is for the younger child when we label their drawings and write the story they tell about the drawing. Through the teacher modeling, the younger students see the words as we write them and watch as we write individual words. They see words and sentences and then as these are reread, they see the importance of the story they are telling. It is great when a child has a picture and asks for the teacher to write on it for them and then move on to writing their own letters on their illustrations. I continue to appreciate the value of the early foundation for children.
