Re: Struggling Readers

I like the idea of a reading club after school. I have a "Reading Buddies" club at the middle school level. The students and I go into elementary classes and provide a one to one or two to one ratio of middle schoolers to elementary students in a classroom. The students read with the students incorporating a couple of reading strategies to assist the students in fluency building. They then aid the students in responding to comprehension questions from the selected text. The only problem is that we can only do this once a month. An after school program would aid in the development of these skills and provide more one on one assistance to needy students.
