Happy to hear it

Ruben had barely reached towards the items on the floor when he felt a hard shove from behind. That was unexpected. Having spent too many years in martial arts training to sit (metaphorically) (a mental sitting was what it really was) idly by while his body was slammed forwards, the Swede rattled off a split-second calculation. He was already crouched and relatively close to the wall, both of which had their benefits and drawbacks. A hit was unavoidable, but he was able to react fast enough to duck his head partially under an elbow and so hit the wall shoulder first. Which hurt like heck, but not like hell, and he knew from experience that his shoulder would be fine for a while before tightening up and then it’d be just a couple more days to normal, so whatever. He had, of course, trained equally with both sides of his body, so his left arm could pick up the slack fine.

Practically as soon as his body came to that sudden hard-wall-stop, Ruben was getting to his feet again and spinning to face his attacker. Who was Danny. And that was even more unexpected. “What the pineapple?” he snapped, glaring. “You have a pineappleing problem you want to share?” The shorter boy had his wand drawn. Ruben’s hands were empty, his wand still tucked away in the side pouch of his duffle… a duffle which, he now noticed, had fallen sideways. Maybe he’d bumped into it on his crash into the wall? That explained where the weird semi-weepy, semi-heavy-breathing sound was coming from. He’d thought it was maybe Russell in the distance, and dismissed it. He now knew it was the fake baby and dismissed it again. Not that the baby mattered less than Russell - he wasn’t sure if there was anything that could matter less than the weird kid, except for, like, the government - but still.

He also didn’t care about being currently wand-free because he didn’t need it for the spells he knew best. With a rapid mutter, completely brushing off whatever obviously silly response Danny may have given to his swearing, he conjured two tight balls of wickedly sharp barbed wire and fired them off at Danny, unrolling as they went. In an ideal world, the idiot would get tangled in it, be impaled in at least six uncomfortable places, and then give up before trying any more feeble attempts at catching him by surprise. Ruben did acknowledge, however, that the mere presence of idiots could drive ideals to extinction, so in case Danny somehow managed to escape, he made a well-practiced dive for his gym bag, snagged his wand, and pointed it at the condom, his thoughts focused. With a high-pitched ping, it shot up to the ceiling, where it broke free of the package and expanded several feet in diameter. He jabbed his wand to point the rubber approximately over Danny as it fell back down. Whether by metal spikes or mystery lube, the guy wasn’t going anywhere, he was sure of it. Clearly, they had to… not talk, but… well.

  • You're right; this is helping - Dardanius, Sun Aug 20 16:24
Of course Ruben was there, because that was just about the only thing that could make Danny’s day any worse at this point. He wasn’t alone; Russell was there, too, and Danny couldn’t hear exactly... more

      • So altruistic - Dardanius , Tue Aug 22 10:12
Seeing Ruben slamming against the wall was very satisfying, but only for a moment. After a breath, Dardanius was ashamed that he'd resorted to primitive reflexes because he couldn't keep his emotions ... more
        • Bubbles? Seriously? Jävla fan , whose arm did Danny think he was pulling with that? Following up with an attack worthy of a twelve-year-old after having already slammed him was not only a garbage... more
          • Im not convinced that's true - Danny, Thu Aug 24 04:08
If Danny thought he had anger issues right now, it was nothing compared to Ruben’s furious demeanor. All because he’d been pushed into a wall, which admittedly wouldn’t usually count as a good time,... more
            • Danny went down. Which was great, because that had been the point. You didn't punch someone in the face if you were planning on continuing the fight further. If there was such thing as a rulebook of... more
              • Disagree - Danny, Fri Aug 25 08:23
Rather than garnering any satisfaction from seeing Ruben’s immobile body hitting the floor, Danny was just frustrated. This was merely proving his mantra that violence never solved anything, and if... more
                • We can't all be right - Ruben, Fri Aug 25 21:19
Ruben couldn’t hold back a snort of laughter at Danny’s instruction. “Reputations are not bad, not something to fight. To know that people can know you in some way from a distance is a fact to be... more
                  • Just me - Danny, Sat Aug 26 08:26
Ruben was obviously missing the point. Dardanius suspected part of this might be wilful misinterpretation. “It's not your business what I do or did with Marissa,” he said calmly, when Ruben asked why ... more

“She doesn’t want people talking about her like that. It makes her upset.” Ruben half-listened to the other boy’s rant about how he should shut his mouth or whatever because Marissa hadn’t said he... more
