Living the dream

If there was one thing about Holland Keene, Rose thought, it was that it was very easy to distract them with a question. In general, Holland seemed like the kind of person who thought a lot. Not necessarily about academics (although they were definitely good at school) but in general, Holland thought a lot. Some of the stuff Holland thought about was really weird and Rose didn’t exactly understand a lot of it, especially when they got into the really weird conspiracy theories involving Muggle things. That was probably one of the reasons Rose didn’t spend a whole lot of time with Holland outside of class. Marissa, who had been raised with much more familiarity with the Muggle world than Rose, seemed to have an easier time with Holland.

Runes was something they had in common though, and Rose was just as capable of thinking things through here as Holland was. Like Rose, Holland preferred to use Elder Futhark runes. Rose hadn’t talked to Holland about why, but from what she knew about Holland Rose suspected that they objected to using runes from other cultures. Unlike Holland, Rose didn’t have a problem with that; she just thought it was easier to use Elder Futhark and she wasn’t advanced enough in Runes to do things that weren’t easy.

“I’m thinking more of something that would radiate outwards,” Rose mused. “I’m thinking about putting Muffliato on the rune and sticking it on my door at home.” she grinned. “Brothers,” Rose added, an explanation. She pulled out a notebook and a quill, stared at it for a moment. After thinking, she wrote a backwards ansuz, for misunderstanding. “Maybe isa, to wait for the trigger?” Rose wasn’t entirely sure if that was the best rune for that job, but she thought it might be. Technically it was a rune for psychological blocks rather than physical ones, but it might work out in this particular context.
