What did you have in mind?

Sam didnít want any coconut ice, which was ideal, because Jesse didnít really want to share it. He felt selfish about that, though, because there was a whole bag of candy, and he couldnít eat it all right now anyway, and Sam had been really friendly and positive and a great first partner to have in his first class ever at Rocky Mountain. It was just true that Jesse didnít get many thinks to himself - he had to share his bedroom at home with his brother Flexi, and quite often he had hand-me-down clothes - even his school uniform robes he was wearing right now had belonged to somebody else first, and would probably belong to Felix after Jesse was done with them - some sometimes it was nice to keep things all to himself. Even if it was just a bag of candy. And Jesse probably shouldnít feel bad about it anyway, because he had offered it to Sam (twice - once before he knew what was inside it, and then again even when he knew it contained something he wanted for himself), who had turned down the offer, so it was just fine for Jesse to keep it. He didnít need to worry about feeling bad for keeping something that had been granted to him freely. He could enjoy it all to himselfÖ except he would probably offer some to Keith, too, if there were any left by the time Jesse saw his roommate back in their dormitory later. That was just polite, and all the Keller children had been brought up to have good manner.

After a couple minutes of searching, neither Jesse nor Sam had found any more packets hiding nearby where they had started looking. Jesse already had one packet, but he was keen to find more because Sam didnít have any yet, and because other packets might contain different treats. Besides, with each time he cast the spell he would swear that the light from its tip was getting brighter and lasting for a little longer, too. It was good practise, and he was improving, as Sam had suggested he would. Jesse was pleased that he had ended up partnering Sam, and not either of whoever the two students were who were having a loud disagreement in the room and necessitating the intervention of the professor. That sounded like a dreadful way to start the year.

Jesse was about to tell Sam that he was pleased they had ended up working together, when his partner gave a sort of jerking nod like he wanted Jesse to follow him. Had he located more packets, perhaps? Jesse obediently followed SaM further into the center of the room. He cast his wandlight around as he moved but he couldnít see any further parcels concealed just yet. He was sure there would be more, unless Professor McKindy had only hidden enough packets for one per student group. But then what if a pair found two, and then one pair didnít have any at all? That didnít seem fair.

Wait what was Sam doing? He was sort of hunched over. ďHave you found something?Ē Jesse asked, quietly, because he didnít want to draw attention to any other partnerships that might be in the vicinity and skillfully make their way to any nearby packets before he and Sam had the chances to find them.
