Jesse caught up just as Satveer crouched close to the floor. Satveer quietly mouthed another Lumos incantation and lowered his wand to the floor to look under the nearby furniture when simultaneously thought and spoke “Let’s turn on the lights”.

It was little more than a thought but the fact that his self-enforced filter had misfired and the thought had become verbalised. Surely that meant it must have been a good thought. Right? Lumos was a really easy charm…. or at least Satveer thought so… and the fact that all the first, second and third years were working together must have meant that Professor McKindy was after something more from them!

Realising that Jesse was possibly confused by the prospect that the professor had turned off the lights, and Satveer wanted to turn them back on, Satveer explained himself. “We need more light.” He said assuredly. “A first year can do Lumos” he gestured toward Jesse whilst continuing, “so maybe the second and third years can get more? My Nani used to do use a spell that made more light” he paused in contemplation, his eyes fixated on his wand. “She didn’t use Lumos, but she did something different with her wand”. Satveer looked up to see that Professor McKindy was still occupied with the other students and in doing so something caught his eye. On a nearby shelf next to a red leather-bound book sat two packets. “Hang that thought” Satveer slowly stuttered having been distracted, “looks like we’ve found more” Satveer gestured toward Jesse. As Satveer leaned forward and picked up one of the packets, it started to unravel. The packet opened to reveal Gummy worms. Satveer loved gummy sweets, especially the fried eggs.

“Wanna share the other one?” Satveer ask Jesse, as it would be polite to do so.

  • What did you have in mind? - Jesse, Sat Mar 3 14:44
Sam didn’t want any coconut ice, which was ideal, because Jesse didn’t really want to share it. He felt selfish about that, though, because there was a whole bag of candy, and he couldn’t eat it all... more
