You’re a star in my eyes

There was glitter on Danny’s hand where he had tried - semi-successfully - to brush it from his shoulder. Then there was glitter on Marissa’s hand after she made a similar attempt. He grinned at the futility, resigning himself to the fact that he was going to be finding glitter everywhere for the rest of the week. Danny glanced over at Holland just as they got completely covered in the stuff, and amended his resignation to cover the remaining duration of the school term. Trust an Aquila to think of a prank with such impressive longevity.

When he’d said ‘everyone’ needed a distraction, Danny had mostly been thinking about Marissa, both in terms of her needing a distraction from her fall out with Rose, and to validate her party-throwing efforts for the majority of guests in attendance who were not focussed on college admissions. While he necessarily fell into the category he’d outlined by his inclusive platitude, he hadn’t expected Marissa to single him out specifically. She was laughing, so he appreciated she was teasing when she said, “What could the great, lucky, easy-going Danny Dubois need to be distracted from?”

Still his eyes flicked again to Holland, who was going to find out tomorrow at which place far away from Danny they would be studying for the next four years, meeting new people and taking classes he couldn’t share. He looked past them to Claudia, stood alone and anxious, with whom he would have to spend the summer. His stomach flipped a little as he thought about spending a couple of months in society: possibly divulging his relationship, possibly concealing it.

Yet Marissa was right: he was incredibly lucky, he did have an amazing relationship, and he did have piles of money. Danny grinned at her. “Don’t forget being incredibly attractive and having the best friends a guy could ask for,” he said, capturing Marissa in a spontaneous one-armed hug. He kissed the top of her head (he thought he’d maybe grown a bit taller again - he might even reach 5’10” before graduating) and said, “Whatever happens, to you or to me, I always want to be lucky enough to call you my friend.”

Danny assumed that Rose was coming, but that didn’t mean her attendance was certain. Marissa tried to ignore the lump in her throat. True, Rose never missed one of her parties, but they’d never... more

      • Flatter me some more please! - Marissa, Fri Jun 8 11:17
Marissa appreciated Danny so much. His optimism and desire to support his friends rivaled her own. At this moment, it beat hers. Well, Marissa still won the “support the friends” category, since this ... more
        • You are sweet and vivacious - Danny, Sat Jun 9 13:03
“Your life would be way boring without me,” Marissa quipped. Danny laughed at her incredulously. “I’ll take a little bit of that boring, please,” he quipped back. If he could make it through the end... more
