It had absolutely slipped Connor’s mind that Professor McKindy was in possession of a Pensieve. As a whole, Connor had not found that lesson tremendously useful and would have rather preferred to have done something entirely different with his time. However, even if Andrew had access to McKindy’s Pensieve, Connor would be surprised if the thing was movable. McKindy was a powerful wizard for all that he was otherwise entirely unsuited to be working in a school, and Pensieves were rare and expensive. He wasn’t going to just leave the thing lying around in his office without spells to keep it there. That meant that in order to make good on his threat, Andrew would have to convince Claudia his claim was worth exploring (unlikely), then convince Claudia to break into a professor’s office (also unlikely), and then convince Claudia, while in a professor’s office on illegitimate business with someone who very obviously didn’t like her, to mentally step away from her surroundings to use the Pensieve (least likely of all).

“Too bad,” Connor replied blandly. He didn’t need to make his argument to Andrew; the younger boy was smart enough to see it without it being pointed out. He was just trying to pretend he had more control than he did over the situation, where Connor was clearly holding all the cards. This was a nice feeling. He could do with more of it.

“Now if you’re done trying to threaten me, I would like to return to our task,” the sixth year said, as smug as could be. He would be surprised if Andrew could come up with anything else after that, but Connor felt like he was on top of the world. Just let Andrew try. “I have something pressing to attend to at the end of class.”

That was when he would go to Deputy Headmaster Fell and make sure the issue with his brother was taken care of. Then once that was sorted out, maybe Connor could actually have a couple of days to relax before their coursework got too intense. He deserved it. All summer he had been hard at work at his internship with Cornelius Knight, it felt like it had been quite a long time since he had the chance to do something enjoyable. Maybe he would even take his broom out to the Quidditch Pitch. Claudia had encouraged him to sign up for the team again this year, and while Connor was not the biggest sports fan, he usually considered Claudia’s perspective very seriously when it was offered.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap. Now, Drew knew for sure that he himself was bluffing. He was just guessing about it being Marley, and guessing about whether Connor really cared about Claudia knowing about... more
