You've sure shook me up

Claudia confirmed that she didn't actually know much about centaurs, and Marley nodded, happy to go along with talking about humans first. Well, really just happy to go along with talking. Some students in the class didn't talk much ever, which was okay with her of course because she could fill in the gaps just fine, while other students talked almost as much as she did, which was also okay if a little frustrating when she felt like she wasn't being properly heard. But working with someone like Claudia was fun. They didn't talk a ton outside of class, but when they did work together, Marley always came out of it with a brand-new idea or three, because her yearmate had such a different perspective.

Like right now. Claudia already wasn't disappointing her expectations. Financial security? That made sense, she supposed; when you were married, then there were two people who could make money for each other so you didn't have to worry about running out if you got sick and couldn't work for a while. Marley suspected her mum had a little stress about that sometimes, but she knew she was lucky to have two parents who loved her the same because they worked together to pay for her school supplies and things like that, so at least her mum didn't have quite as much stress as if she didn't have a dad at all. But blood purity? And why did Claudia think that affection wasn't as important as blood and stuff? Marley's mum didn't even know her own blood status, and she didn't think that had ever mattered in her life even a tiny bit, so why should it matter in marriage?

Opening and closing her mouth, Marley attempted to ask her questions, but there were like ten different ones in her head and she couldn't decide where to start. Maybe it would be easier to mimic how Claudia had introduced her opinion and then she could ask her questions after. "Okay, so I wanna ask you, like, everything," she warned with a giggle, "but first I'll say my perspective. So. I'm... kind of wizard-raised? I grew up knowing about magic, anyways, but sometimes I lived with my dad and he's a Muggle, but he knows about magic, too. And I think marriage doesn't really mean anything." She hadn't been entirely sure of what she would say until she said it, but now that it was out, she realized that yes, that was exactly how she felt.

"Like, my parents never got married. They had me because they loved each other when they were younger, and then they stopped loving each other, but they never stopped being really, really good friends. They've always worked together and we're definitely a family. And they didn't need to be married to do that. I guess sometimes people feel like they need to be married to be a family, and sometimes people don't, and it's okay both ways as long as they work together and are happy," she concluded with a nod, dark curls bouncing. "Happy is like, the most important. Do you think being happy is important too? And also, is blood really that big a deal?" she questioned, brown eyes wide with curiosity. It was the biggest question on her mind right now. "Like, would you never even consider marrying a Muggle, no matter who they were or how much you loved them?"
