That's mine

Dardanius was finding it very difficult to take this class seriously. When the guy who was teaching the stuff couldn’t even say the words, the sixth year had to wonder what sort of effect this was going to have on his classmates. Probably none. He was really tempted to help the substitute out by shouting out the words the poor guy was struggling to get his tongue around, but considering his recent experiences (or lack thereof) with the subject material, he found a strong desire to not draw attention to himself in the class. Instead he diligently declined a cookie, and sat through what had to be at least one person in the room’s most uncomfortable experience to date. His money (and no small amount of such) would be on the professor.

The class actually improved with the presence of Professor Blair who had demonstrably at least had sex (the same was almost certainly not true of her temporary replacement) and managed to use actual words in front of the class. Of course she then went on to rather unnecessarily point out that they, being students, didn’t want to experience parenthood in the current moment. In some ways it verified at least one part of his argument for not sleeping with Marissa, but in the weeks since they had broken up Danny had done remarkably well at not thinking about that. Marissa was acting like everything was fine and normal, and whether she really felt that way or was simply hoping everyone would believe it Danny wasn’t sure, but he followed her lead and did likewise. He was busy with schoolwork and Quidditch and animagus studying anyway, and somehow they’d managed to avoid working in classes together. It wasn’t great, especially when Marissa came to class in the sort of fitted sundress that made Danny feel like she was actually trying to remind him how hot she was (he didn’t think she was petty enough to actually do that, but it certainly didn’t help him to try thinking of her as just a friend when she was so ridiculously attractive all the time), but it was working.

What wasn’t working, apparently, was their seating arrangements. Professor Blair had stopped introducing the assignment in order to shake up the class. At first Danny thought that separating Ruben and Kaye was very obviously a good idea, but when their new partnerships were revealed Danny decided he didn’t care if the Aquilas worked together. Emmett was obviously of the same mind; Danny offered a grimace of consolation as his friend passed by. The sixth year would have worked with Holland as preference, or Emmett, or maybe even Rose. But no, he had to work with Kaye, who was… wearing his (no longer) missing smoking jacket. Of course she was.

Trying not to begrudge his partner too much (he didn’t really mesh well with Kaye, but he didn’t dislike her as much as Emmett hated Ruben, or Holland didn’t get along with Camilla), Danny lifted a faceless baby out of the box as it passed, and put it on his desk, as Kaye’s was occupied by her feet. She was more interested in the other pairings around the class, for which Danny couldn’t blame her. It was one way to put off having to look after a fake baby together when they barely shared a thought in common. “I’m sure Marissa and Russell will do fine,” he said placatingly. He opted not to comment on the other couple. Besides, they were ignoring the elephant in the room.

“That’s mine,” he said pointedly, nodding at the smoking jacket he had last seen a month ago on the floor of the secret passageways. He wasn’t sure how or why she’d managed to incorporate it into an outfit that looked a little, but not entirely, ridiculous. He was wearing a sky blue polo and grey khakis, which was arguably far more suitable class attire.

  • Cradle and all - Kaye Packman, Sun Aug 13 11:36
Kaye took more classes than people probably expected of her. She took Magizoobotany, Magical Sciences, Spellwork, and Potions. She’d just dropped History of Magic for her beginning work in the... more

        • You Know - Dardanius , Mon Aug 14 15:22
Kaye feigned ignorance at his claim of possession; Danny didn't care. He barely wore it anyway, and since it now held bad associations - firstly because of the sleepover party or, more accurately,... more
          • Know what? - Kaye, Mon Aug 21 15:14
Danny didn’t argue back about the jacket, which was just annoying. What was the point of wearing this around him if he didn’t care? Ugh, what a waste of her time. She didn’t know why she wanted to... more
            • Nothing, apparently - Danny, Tue Aug 22 15:40
Kaye was being even more sullen and unhelpful than usual. That was really saying something. Dardanius was starting to believe that she really wasn’t going to do the project, and refuse to put her... more

The baby had hair. That information was enough to get Marissa to glance over at the tiny thing in front of them. It – she – seemed to be sleeping, which was great news. Most of their classmates... more

Danny knew some tiny humans, so that was good. Kaye was very comfortable letting him take over most of the work, then. He would’ve been doing so anyway, because she didn’t care about this, but it... more
