Dardanius Dubois
Nice pun

Danny strode through the school corridors in his incredible dark green boots, wearing a button-up shirt in a coordinating shade. He had just been up to Pearl Street for some ink and a new quill - he had been given a new one for Christmas that he'd been using but it was too slanted on the nib and made his practically illegible handwriting even more so - and been distracted into a couple of other stores along the mall before returning to school. He had designated the next hour for practising wandless spells, specifically levitation, summoning and vanishing charms. When using his voice and his wand together, Dardanius found his talents lay in transfiguration spells. However since he'd been making attempts at wandless spells and nonverbal magic, the fifth year found he was having more luck with charms. He was sure some students might like to investigate why that may be the case, but Danny didn't really care; as long as he could do the spells, the theory behind them wasn't significant to him.

Danny peeped around the door to the lecture hall, which was a great place to practise wandless magic if it wasn't in use. Using the library as a venue had the potential to disturb other students, and anywhere else had the potential to distract Danny away from his work. While there was no class going on there at that time, there was another student. Danny pushed the door open further and went into the room to see if the other student would mind him working there, too, and discovered that it was Holland.

“I’m trying to do wandless practice, but I need something to wave around so I can trick my brain into thinking we have a wand.”

Of all the strange theories Holland had suggested over the years, this one seemed unusually rational. Dardanius did not have a pencil, and tried to think if he was carrying anything else that might be serviceable. “Um, I've got a licorice wand, if that's any use?” He had bought two of them only ten minutes ago. He retrieved his recent purchase and held the paper bag out towards Holland to take one if they wanted. “That's an interesting idea,” he commented on Holland’s proposal. “How are you getting along?”

When it seemed appropriate to do so, Danny asked, “Do you mind if I practise here, too?” He didn't think Holland would mind, as they had worked together plenty of classes over the years, but it would be rude not to ask. “I should warn you I don't have very good control.” At least he was getting his spells to do something, which was progress.
