“Good afternoon to all of my scholars, young and younger!”

The bright, cheerful greeting was something that everyone probably expected by now from Professor Cindra Embers; that didn’t mean it felt any kind of normal. After all, this was Defense Against the Dark Arts, and she was the last one of the Embers alumni ever expected to teach this class. Everyone’s first choice, of course, would have been Cosette. In fact, Cindra was at least ninety percent sure that she’d been approached first. Cosette was too busy making oodles of money from the Edwards, doing whatever the opposite of Defense Against the Dark Arts must called (Implementation of the Dark Arts? Doing The Dark? She didn’t know; she DEFENDED against the Dark Arts, duh). Then, Katrina would have been the next choice, and after her, Abby if they were desperate.

Cindra was the one who applied, though, so she’s who everyone was blessed to have.

“I feel so bubbly and jubilant to see all of you here today,” The blonde chirped. Her blue eyes sparkled as she looked at every student in front of her; somehow, the blue mascara she had on made her eyes even bluer. It was an unusual class day for the school. Instead of teaching all of her Defense lessons back to back, she thought she could be more efficient and gather them all together for one super special field lesson! Cindra smiled even bigger; her metallic purple lipstick shined in the light. Truly, it made the most sense. The older students would need the younger ones and vice versa to get through the day.

“The Lurlina Faeries,” Cindra began her lesson with no real introduction or explanation, “are tricky little critters; only the youngest among us can see them. Faeries are incredibly vain, of course, so it pisses them off that anyone fifteen and older can't see them, so they play mean little tricks that get more and more dangerous the longer they're out. These tricks can range from tickling you behind your ear to making a rope out of your hair and strangling you with it.”

Her happy tone didn’t change at all, creating a nice little cognitive dissonance between what she was saying and how she said it. Her outfit also made everything seem much brighter and safer than it actually was. The faeries had been known to kill those who ignored them after too long, but she fully believed her students could find them all before it came to that. Cindra readjusted the pretty crystal ear cuffs on her ears and continued her lesson.

“As you can see behind me, I have so many empty cages that need to be filled up with the missing Lurlina Faeries. Younger years will pair up with older years. Younglings, you will help the older years by locating the faeries. Older years, you will cast the spell mediocris revelio to make the Lurlina temporarily visible to you. You can then cast immobulus - whoever wants to, I don’t care – and bring the faerie back in the cage. This is how most people subdue the faeries in order to remove their wings for potions ingredients, but that’s very wrong and we won’t be doing that today. Plus, it really upsets them because they aren’t as pretty without their wings. Silly, vain, creatures.

“Oh!” Cindra clapped her hands together. “I almost forgot. They’re already out and about. You have about twenty minutes before they start getting really angry and giving you color changing rashes. Let me tell you, the rashes are pretty, but boy do they burn. Have fun!”

OOC: The rules for this class are pretty self-explanatory. Partner a lower year with an upper year, an upper year with a lower year, and try not to die! Extra interesting posts get extra special points. Tag Cindra if you need her!

                        • But it's objectively true - Kit, Thu Nov 30 21:15
Ruben’s arm was suddenly in the way of Kit’s helpful wand, so her spell (which worked!) hit him in the arm instead of where Kit had intended it to hit him, which was where she’d accidentally hit him... more
