Andrew Tennant
How is it on Cloud Nine?

Cindra Embers was probably technically one of Drew’s aunts (because she was cousins with Kat and Abby and sisters with Cosette) but she didn’t come to family holidays and Drew was pretty sure he had never even met her before this year. Apparently she didn’t keep in touch with the family much, because everyone had been really surprised to find out that she had a baby, and Drew was pretty sure that that was the basic kind of thing that you told your family about. Drew would’ve found it hard to believe she was related to them if it weren’t for the fact that Cindra looked and acted kind of like what would happen if Kit Polyjuiced into Cosette.

It seemed, like, totally in character for Cindra to let all the faeries out before class. Drew saw a few flitting around while Cindra was cheerfully explaining that they liked to strangle people. Okay, then. Also she kept calling him “Andrew” in class, so that was really weird. Most of his professors called him Drew, except for the really formal ones who called him “Mr. Tennant.” (And not a lot of professors did that either, probably because Dad’s title was also “Mr. Tennant” and it would be confusing.)

Drew expected Kit to partner up with Marissa, but she’d started talking to Ruben, so Marissa was free. Score, Drew could work with his cousin. He wasn’t sure how good she was at Defense Against the Dark Arts (it didn’t seem like her kind of class), but he’d rather work with Marissa than some random upperclassman, even if he or she or they were really good at the class. He looked for Marissa’s telltale red hair and saw her holding hands with Danny before the Lyra kissed her cheek and they separated.

Oh, yeah. That was a thing now. Relationship news spread fast in a small school like RMI. Marissa had actually told Drew herself that she and Danny were dating, but he’d heard it from Heather first. And Marissa seemed really happy about dating Danny—more excited than she had been about the other guys and girl she’d dated at RMI—so, like, good for her.

…buuuuuuut Drew’s opinion that Danny Dubois was kind of pretentious had not changed. New plan: he could work with Danny in this class and just find out more about him. It’d be like a reconnaissance mission, like the Hardy Boys did in the books sometimes. The only things he really knew about Danny were that he was pureblooded and kind of showboaty, and also that he and Ruben had gotten in a duel earlier this year. Drew wasn’t sure whether the news that Marissa and Danny were dating had made its way to the staff yet. Cindra probably knew now because they were holding hands in her class, but she hadn’t even told her sister that she had a baby, so she probably wouldn’t think about mentioning this to Dad. Drew could pretty much guarantee that Dad would ask about the relationship the next time Drew spent time at home.

Drew changed course from Marissa to her boyfriend, who greeted Drew with a question about the class. “Uh-huh,” Drew said. “I’m only twelve, so.” He was one of the older kids in his year because his birthday was at the end of September. They had already passed his half-birthday this year, so Drew was closer to thirteen than twelve, but that was still well under the age cutoff for seeing the faeries. “I saw some earlier but they kind of went off into the trees. Got your wand ready?” Drew was totally ready to call out any faeries he saw.

  • Happy Again - Dardanius Dubois, Wed Nov 1 14:09
Life was great again. Danny was dating Marissa, and properly, this time - no random ‘no strings attached’ making out, no ‘we can still see other people’ nonsense - just the two of them, having a... more

      • Blissful - Dardanius, Fri Nov 3 16:30
He had some familiarity with Drew Tennant, basically because the kid had been living at the school the entire time Dardanius had been there, and moreover because Marissa was close with the Tennants,... more

“ I don’t use it much, I’m working on wandless magic. ” Well Danny didn’t have to brag about it but wandless magic was pretty cool. Aaron did it all the time. Things in the Tennant apartment... more
          • Omniscience is an unrealistic goal - Danny, Fri Nov 10 15:09
This class felt like a slight waste of his time - the same could apply to all the upper years, for that matter - as Danny suspected the younger years could probably manage the assignment without the... more

Man of few words, Danny Dubois. Or he just didn’t want to talk about his girlfriend with her cousin, which, like, fair, dude. Drew had been hoping for more details. Just, like, how Danny thought it... more
              • Leaves no room for improvement - Danny, Mon Nov 27 11:42
Drew was still talking to a spot that contained nothing but thin air as far as Danny was concerned, so he had to assume that the faerie was still there and that his spell had simply missed. That... more
                • Being omnivorous, then? - Drew, Wed Nov 29 10:17
Danny was sarcastic right back at Drew, which was a good sign. He’d meant it as a joke, so good, Danny didn’t take things too seriously. Not that Drew was testing him, because that was stupid.... more
                  • I'm down for that - Danny, Wed Nov 29 14:08
Drew said that he couldn’t see any more faeries around them, and Danny had no choice but to take his word for it. He supposed it made sense that if any other faeries had seen what the students were... more
