I strongly object

Ruben had never gotten hit quite like this before. That might have come as a surprise to some, considering his affinity for physical confrontation, but it was absolutely logical and really should make perfect sense to anyone else who participated in relatively violent interactions. It was a sort of silent but agreed-upon rule: men don’t whack other men in the balls. Not a single one of the guys he had brawled with in the past had broken this rule. Thought about it, perhaps - Ruben knew he had - but never acted on it. To do so would be a low blow (literally and figuratively) and basically a way of labelling the perpetrator as ‘totally lacking the ability to do anything of real skill but not caring who knows it and just going for the easiest way out’. On rare occasions, he had spotted younger teens lurking around parking lots or malls or wherever and kicking each other in the pants. Ruben could only scoff at that. Wimps. Idiot wimps.

In addition to being a silent rule, it was also literally against the rulebook in glíma, due to falling under the category of ‘types of physical contact that are utterly unhelpful in attaining the combative goal’. But the silent rule preceded it, for obvious reasons. The blonde had heard some call it a Bro Code, but that was dumb. It was more like a Fight Code.

Kit, however, was (a) not by any stretch of the imagination a participant in anything resembling fight club and in fact could probably be assumed to lean towards the peacekeeping side of things, as long as she wasn’t bouncing off the walls, and (b) a little girl who had canned him with her head. This, for a very brief and also very much too long moment, brought to mind the random realization that she was the second Kendrick to come in contact with that region of his anatomy. Ugh. Also ow, still.

…..Also where the hell was she pointing her wand now?!

Without thinking twice, Ruben pulled up one hand and reached out to shove the girl away, swearing loudly again in Swedish as he did so. The movement meant that his arm cut across the trajectory of her spell, which was fortunate as it seemed like the goal of her Glacius had been to freeze his parts into a literal glacier - his forearm went instantly numb from how cold it was, fingers spasming. A bit annoyingly snuck around his arm, which did not help his crotch situation in the slightest, but at least he could be reassured that nothing important was going to fall off due to frostbite. However, the movement, and his sudden lack of control over it, also meant that his newly stiffened limb swung towards Kit with more force than strictly necessary. Of course, he felt no regret at this - he just needed to give himself more distance from the crazy child.

  • Arguably I just hit the bullseye - Kit, Sat Nov 18 11:28
Kit was very confused, and not just because she’d totally bounced off Ruben instead of grabbing the faerie behind him. She was also confused because Ruben had just made the weirdest sound ever and... more
    • I strongly object - Ruben, Tue Nov 21 20:56
      • But it's objectively true - Kit, Thu Nov 30 21:15
Ruben’s arm was suddenly in the way of Kit’s helpful wand, so her spell (which worked!) hit him in the arm instead of where Kit had intended it to hit him, which was where she’d accidentally hit him... more
        • Heads weren’t the most interesting body part to work with, but they were effective. It was a popular site to handle in glíma bouts - literally handle, that is. It was a natural balance point. Land a... more
