What if I don't care?

When Leo had agreed to got to Myffi’s gardening club he hadn’t realised it would start with a lecture about all that organic healthy plant stuff. He wondered if he should maybe give Myffi some pointers on how not to scare new membership away by boring them to tears in the first five minutes. He was pretty sure that if someone had bothered to turn up to this thing they had probably already read one of her flyers or horror-of-horrors got recruited in person with the one-on-one speech from Myffi herself.

By the time Myffi got around to talking about harvesting plants with so much excitement you’d think you were going to find a few galleons buried down there with them, Leo was starting to have some real reservations about the whole idea. Maaaybe plants weren’t his thing. Maybe he should join a dueling club or something instead, that sounded more brag worthy. Telling everyone you managed to weed around your tomatoes was not that great a conversation starter unless you were asking to be punched. All the same Leo gave Myffi a supportive whoop when she finished, and glared at a few of the younger students to join in. Public speaking was tough so anyone who bothered to try deserved a little praise.

Leo wasn’t feeling called to any particular vegetable but he was keen to get stuck in and reluctant to ask around for advice. So he marched over to a plot with a few random tools in hand. He wasn’t really sure what most of them did, just that one was definitely a small shovel-thing, so that's probably for digging. He was feeling confident he’d figure it all out easily enough with a little trial and error. Dropping the pile of tools at his feet, Leo leaned forwards and began to prod at some green planty-thing with his hand. Leo wasn’t really sure what was supposed to be growing there, and if there was a specific way for pulling these things up. Maybe he could just rip it out?

As Leo was contemplating doing just that a sharp voice stopped him in his tracks. Before Leo spun around to bite into whoever was chucking about orders like they were King of the Garden, he yanked on the stem of the plant he already had a grip on, pulling it from the earth. He then glanced over to find out that the scolding had come from Ruben. Leo wasn’t a huge fan of Ruben. Ruben was way too much of a show off with his weird karate stuff and his stupid hair (no Leo was not still bitter about his forced haircut-Ruben’s hair was just stupid- ok?). But Ruben was a seventh year and although Leo wasn’t too scrawny for a sixteen year old his dueling skills needed a lot of work. So as much as he hated to admit it, Leo was pretty sure Ruben could beat him in a fight. So instead of telling Ruben where he could put that finger he insisted on waving around, Leo glowered at him. “Sorry,” he said, hands raised in mock submission, “didn’t realise potatoes were so important to you.
