Agricultural Club Bonfire Buffet

The first Agriculture Club meeting of the year had been advertised by fliers (written on recycled paper using vegetable inks) around the school from the moment Myfanwy had obtained permission from Toby, who had been, as usual, very enthusiastic about her plans. The club the Lyra had set up two years ago was an excellent opportunity for students of any age at RMI to plant, cultivate, and harvest organically grown produce in the designated allotments within the grounds of the school. It was a shame that so many plants naturally ripened while the students were all away for the summer, but with an army of house elves to feed, and some staff families permanently residing within the school, Myffi was certain nothing would go to waste. However it would be amazing for the students who had put in hard work to grow these plants to be able to sample the fruit (metaphorically and literally) of their labours. Meals for the club members had been held towards the end of term before, but this year, with so much food suitable for early September harvesting, Myfanwy had decided it would be fun to hold an introductory feast of fresh, organic produce that would be open for any inhabitant of the school to attend. She was hopeful it might encourage new members to join.

The first full weekend back at school, AgriClub’s bonfire and buffet was held at the outdoor classroom on Saturday evening. In the middle of the ring of weathered, wooden benches was a small, magically managed bonfire. Around the outside of the circle were small tables bearing the crops that Myffi and other members of AgriClub had picked, gathered, and otherwise harvested earlier that day. There were cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuces, beets and carrots, a selection of fresh herbs and several small bowls of raspberries. There were also potatoes, which could either be baked whole on the bonfire, or cut up with carrots or beets and mixed with herbs to make soup. Some tomatoes has been blended with herbs, which could be used as a dressing or a dip for crudites. With a variety of implements for cooking on hand, the guests could consume the produce however they chose.

As people began to arrive, the seventh year cheerfully greeted everyone and, if they had never been to AgriClub before, briefly introduced herself, and outlined that the food was all grown organically by RMI students, without using pesticides, potions, or other chemicals to enhance growth in any way. She was ready to answer any question that students or staff might have, and content to flit about, happily weaving between students and around the bonfire like an excitable moth in her long, brown linen dress. Her round, rose-gold glasses glinted in the firelight, and her dark hair was safely secured in a single French braid.

(OOC: Welcome to AgriClub! Please remember that all posting rules apply here, including minimum word count and not writing for other characters. If you have any questions you can ask on the OOC page or in chatzy. If your character has any questions for Myffi, she will do her best to answer. Have fun!)

    • I regret my choices - Connor Farnon, Wed Jul 18 16:41
Of the things that Connor didn’t like about RMI, Agricultural Club wasn’t near the top of the list. Some of the members of Agricultural Club were near the top of the list, most specifically Marley... more
      • Oh finally, you're making progress - Marley Chapman, Thu Jul 19 16:26
Walking around to admire the assortment of vegetables that had been spread out, Marley’s smile just kept growing bigger. Their little club had started from nothing and grown all of this, and now they ... more

He should have known that their conversation would end up like this. No matter how polite Connor tried to be, Marley ruined it every time. All he had done was ask if she had experience cooking... more

It wasn’t unusual for Connor to be confused when talking to Marley because she often said things that didn’t make sense. Usually they could be tied back to the conversation as a whole, though, which... more
