Another advantage of dousing Marissa, besides revenge, was that she was now wet in a sports bra. “What?” Danny asked, her words not matching his thoughts. Then he realised she was talking about his lip and he grinned. “It’ll heal,” he reassured her. He wanted to add that it would take more than a trip jinx to slow him down, but then she might take that as encouragement to try something more substantial. Instead he said, “Pretty sure your Quidditch team has had me in worse shape that this.” He hadn't come off too badly in school games so far, but he was a Chaser; it was inevitable he would be hit by a Bludger from time to time.
Turning back to the flames, he cast the water charm again, assuming that Marissa would add her own charm, too. After a few short moments Danny was able to pass through unscathed and continue on with the course. It seemed like he was going to be stuck with Marissa now, unless one of them out-ran the other. Or she made a more successful attempt at disabling him.
There was a misty fog up ahead. Danny’s half-successful bubble head charm was still in place, but he cast impervious on his face, too, which repelled the mist. It helped him to breathe and see right in front of him, but the thick fog was still obscuring the rest of the trail. He didn't think running through it was necessarily the best course of action. “Any ideas?” He asked Marissa. She had definitely benefited from his wand work on the mud pit, so he figured it was fair that she could come up with a plan this time.
