Dardanius Dubois

Just recently it didn’t seem to Danny like there was sufficient space in his head for all his thoughts. It wasn’t something he was used to - the only type of thinking he ever really engaged in was overthinking, which is what he supposed he was doing now, about lots of different things all at the same time. It wasn’t even helpful, because thoughts from unrelated topics kept overlapping each other and surely it would be more beneficial and less distracting for him more generally if he could at least order his internal ramblings into some sort of structure or system to be dealt with more efficiently? At least he believed so, until he realised he was just overthinking overthinking, and that was ridiculous even for him.

After an unproductive morning of classes because he apparently couldn’t focus on anything for more than about three minutes before his attention diverted back to its previous, irritating state of confusion, the fifth year decided that anything requiring mental capacity in any format would have to be put on hold for the time being. He needed some space.

Kitted out in his running shoes and a t-shirt bearing the Cirrus Quidditch supplies logo in similar shades of bottle green, along with a pair of black shorts, the Lyra set off for the Quidditch pitch, starting to jog as soon as he was beyond the doors leading out of the school building. He had planned to run a few laps of the pitch for some air, but he hadn’t even reached it when he’d noticed there were far too many people already flying around. Sometimes he’d just continue over anyway, incorporating potential bludger-dodging as part of his exercise, but today he’d rather a more solitary excursion. Diverting his course, Danny headed towards the outdoor classroom area instead, where the paths and trees would make for less repetitive footfalls and more aesthetic scenery, anyway. He’d kept his light jogging pace while he negotiated students milling nearer the school, but was about to break into a run when he see Ruben literally hanging from a particular tree in front of him.

Danny stopped, probably because he just really hadn’t expected to look up from his feet and find a Scandinavian dangling from a branch. Then Ruben turned enough to see that Danny was standing there, and that was probably just as weird. Bemused, Danny took a couple of steps forward, intending to carry on his run regardless of the peculiar disruption. However his thoughts had already started to vye for the coveted position at the forefront of his mind, the current and clear winner being his dissatisfying unfamiliarity with Ruben, particularly with regards to Holland. While he hadn’t actually inquired about the relationship - Holland would tell him if they wanted to - Dardanius knew they had hit it off at the blind date party and been on at least one date to Pearl Street. This wasn’t the best timing - in fact it was laughably inappropriate - but Danny had already hesitated too long to not say anything.

“That particular tree likes to throw people off it sometimes, just for kicks,” he warned Ruben, his breathing barely affected from the short distance he’d covered at low speed. Admittedly the fact was not up-to-date, because Danny had been twelve when he’d climbed it and been unceremoniously deposited several feet away, but he hadn’t made any recent attempts to repeat the process so for all he knew it was still true.

      • Well, not any more. Thanks for that. - Ruben, Sat Apr 15 16:59
Despite being a friend of Holland’s and presumably someone that hen had mentioned to him before, Ruben either didn’t know the other boy’s name or had forgotten it. Either option was possible. They... more

The response his advice received of just climbing the tree and sitting in it suggested to Danny that Ruben would fit in just fine with the rest of his friends; with perhaps the exception of Holland,... more

Dardanius had not been aware there were machines for exercising. Muggles had machines for everything, so he wasn't surprised, except that this information had not come up before, either in Cultural... more
