Usefully non-distracting

Admittedly, Ruben hadn't specifically sought out exercise machines at RMI and so was not completely sure whether any existed, but he'd assumed there must be some kind of designated exercise room for the Quidditch teams. The guy's response suggested, however, that either there wasn't or he just didn't take advantage of it. He further interpreted this to mean that he didn't take Quidditch very seriously. Cardio and typical drills were hardly enough to properly prepare the body for physical duress. At least, not for Ruben's preferred sports. Maybe Quidditch was truly as non-taxing as it appeared.

"How much do you swim? Are you running laps just of the Pitch, or also the forest? And do you not ever use the climbing wall?" He fired these questions off with the casual attitude of one who regularly makes spontaneous interrogations of others' fitness routines. Which was true. As an older participant in their various duelling societies, he'd taken a bit of a mentorship role at Durmstrang, which included a fair amount of suggestions for exercise (unsurprising, considering the school's emphasis on physique alongside magic). Here at RMI, Ruben had managed to adopt Rose as a pupil of sorts for martial arts and had subjected her to similar rounds of questioning on occasion. That had been the extent of it, though, which was simultaneously a relief in terms of getting to focus on his own progress and also weird in terms of focusing so exclusively on himself.

Following the dude's listing of their clique (as if he didn't have the observational skills to already know about its members, pfft), he pieced it together and realized this must be Danny. Well, that solved that. "Maybe," he answered vaguely. How honest he should be with Danny on the topic of Quidditch was debatable, and also very not-debatable. It wouldn't be the worst-case scenario if news got back to Holland of his staggeringly low opinion of the sport, but it might not be the best case, either. "I am not a crazed fan of Quidditch." Yeah, that was a solid, generic answer, he thought. It gave the impression that he wasn't the type to scream in the stands, but didn't say how far he'd go (pre-Holland) to avoid watching in the first place.

Ruben had no intention of elaborating on this statement and was saved from doing so when the tree branch shuddered underneath him. Ever ready to move, his reflexes kicked in and the tall boy leapt off the branch just as it started to move, tucking into a tight roll that he knew from experience would leave him entirely uninjured. He landed in a crouch and waited for the branch to swing harmlessly over his head before standing. "I think that you were correct on this tree. I will try a new one the next time," he grinned.
