A Case of Hiccups to End All Hiccups

After a little over two months at RMI, Hunter was starting to feel like he knew his way around. It was now almost a full week since he had last gotten lost, and he never forgot his wand at all any more. Classes were going ok for the most part, and he had confirmed there were plenty of adventures to be had. He certainly hadn’t been bored in longer than he could remember, and that was cool.

As Hunter came into class and saw Professor Rob grinning like a maniac next to a list of instructions, he felt that something was a little off, but couldn’t really put his finger on what it was.

The professor talked about the hiccuping solution, and Hunter grinned. It was a cool idea, but he’d have to be careful! When Hunter got the hiccups, boy did he get the hiccups. And he could never, ever get them to go away, either.

Then he heard the first hiccup, and the penny dropped.

Oh shit.

He managed to not say it out loud, but he couldn’t stop his mouth from giving shape to the words. He braced himself against the table and tried to force himself to listen to the rest of the lecture. It wasn’t easy. His first hiccup escaped before long, and his focus started to evaporate rapidly.

He heard Professor Rob say something about back-solving a reversal potion, and he started frantically trying to think. Potions was not Hunter’s strong suit, he had been beginning to feel. He could follow instructions just fine, but when it came to how the various ingredients and instructions worked and the theory behind it all… he had a little more trouble. He wondered if he might have missed something in an earlier lesson, because he had no idea how to take a set of ingredients and instructions and make something that would do the opposite. Probably just… doing the instructions in reverse wouldn’t work, he figured.

He reached for his potions book to see if he could find anything in it about back-solving for reversal, but just as he gripped it he let out an almighty hiccup that knocked him clear off his seat and clattering down to the floor tangled in his robes. Amidst hiccups of increasing frequency (and pitch, he was alarmed to realize) he managed to untangle himself and, with the help of another hiccuping student, get to his feet. He had no idea where his potions book had gone, but he suspected it had sailed off, possibly never to be seen again.

Not wanting to waste time looking for it, he turned to his rescuer to say, “Hey I uh hic! I’m not sure how to make a hic! a reversal potion and hic! think I lost hic! my book. Any chance hic! we could hic! look it up togethhic!er?”
