It didn’t take long for Marissa to place the voice. She’d honestly expected someone else - maybe Rose or Danny or Holland - to come check on her. Her heart sunk slightly when she realized it wasn’t Rose, and she had to convince herself that the boggart wasn’t right. Rose was waiting her turn to face the boggart herself. That’s why she wasn’t checking on Marissa. Danny and Holland were bound to be distracted by each other as soon as time allowed (and she absolutely did not blame them), so that made sense. What was surprising, however, was that it was Bryn.

It took a shaky breath and wiping her freckled cheeks with the sleeve of her hoodie before she felt confident in sitting up. She didn’t realize she’d been crying. The Aquila was pretty emotional, but she hated crying like this. She was totally into a happy cry or a cathartic cry. Like, watching a sad movie or episode of television that made you sob felt so good once it was over. This kind of crying, over something bad that just happened, didn’t feel good, and it just left her with a headache when it was over.

“I’m fine,” she answered with a small smile, thankful for the concern. At least someone cared. She didn’t need to be the center of attention, but it was surprising that all of her friends didn’t bother to come check on her. Her own blood relative, the professor, didn’t even come over to ask how she was. Maybe the boggart is right after all. ...no, stop that, you’re such an idiot. Damn it! At least the lack of concern from Aunt Cindra wasn’t surprising. She was so lovely and kind, but she didn’t seem quite aware of things happening in the real world.

As if he could hear the voice in her head, Bryn pointed out that nothing the boggart said was true. She wasn’t necessarily sure she agreed, but it definitely helped to hear someone say it. “Thanks. It’s… more embarrassing than anything. Aunt Cindra - I mean, Professor Embers - is gonna make all the upper years hold a restorative circle or something at this rate. All of our boggarts are each other. I swear, it wasn’t like this the last time we had to do boggarts.”
