DJ smiled when Claudia stated she would have no objection to being his partner. That was a weird way to say yes but it got the point across, he wasn’t her first choice in partner. Yet, DJ smiled through it. He had been raised to treat women with the utmost respect even if they were disrespectful of you.

Claudia held up her wand and asked if he had a preference of who hexed the other first. DJ really wanted to say he would prefer to not complete the assignment as ordered but he knew better. “You can hex first,” DJ said as he moved his bag to the side making sure it was secured correctly so nothing spilled out.

DJ actually wanted Claudia to hex first because he wasn’t sure which hexes would be appropriate in this type of class. DJ was good at hexes and he knew a few he shouldn’t. He had grown up in a family where both his parents were hex makers for the US Wizarding Army. Some DJ had seen his Dad and Mom develop and practice on each other were now considered war crimes if used on a battlefield and were illegal in everyday life. That hadn’t stopped DJ was practicing them at home in the Finn’s practice space.

“I’m never sure what hexes to use on each other. At Wallowa, we were rarely allowed to practice on each other for these things.” He left out the bit about war crime hexes because he figured that might scare of Claudia. DJ picked pulled out his own wand and walked a few feet away. “Ready when you are.”
