It's time to d-d-d-d-duel! [Ruben]

As with most things, Rose took Dueling Club very seriously. Not necessarily because she expected to ever use her dueling skills in a practical environment, but rather because at the heart of things, Rose was actually a pretty competitive person. She liked winning things and outmatching people, and had very little interest for areas that didn’t allow her to do that. It was why she had dropped Potions, for example. She could have stuck around and probably learned quite a bit (now that Professor Rob taught the class especially, she’d heard that he was actually a really good potioneer professionally) but after she’d only gotten an E on her Potions STOAT, Rose had been pretty quick at dropping it. Of the classes Rose had decided to stick with - Defense, Magizoobotany, Spellwork, and Arithmancy - she had gotten Os on all of them. Except Arithmancy, obviously, as it was an upper-year elective and she hadn’t taken a STOAT in it.

Dueling Club met in the practical lab. As with most meetings of Dueling Club, Rose had resorted to a fitted forest-green tank with light gray sweats and lime green sneakers matched with white ankle socks. She didn’t wear any jewelry to Dueling Club, because, in her words, she wasn’t an idiot. Rose had brought her bag, patterned with paisley owls, because she had just come from the library where she had been working on their latest Spellwork essay. Professor McKindy wasn’t a bear about homework but he did still assign it. He just didn’t waste their time with work solely intended to keep them busy.

As Rose entered the room, she slung her bag off her shoulder and carelessly dropped it against one wall, where there were already some bags. The navy mats were already laid out on the floor and Rose grinned. She bent down to pull her wand out of her bag, then stood back up and examined herself critically in one of the mirrors that currently lined one wall of the lab. Her blonde hair was already trying to escape the low bun she’d wrestled it into and with a tap of her wand she attempted to convince the escaping curls to lie flat against her head. They sort of obeyed, clinging to the side of her head in a kind of crinkle texture. Rose sighed and tucked her wand into the side of her sports bra. That would have to do.

The majority of dueling club was paired duels, and after there was no indication that today would be different, the fifth year Aquila gazed around the room for someone to partner with. Her brother Dade was also here, which she was proud of - getting Dade to do social activities was absolutely impossible under most circumstances - and a few other people she’d dueled recently. Marilyn Hamelick was there, but Rose had dueled the Draco prefect last meeting and had come to a frustrating draw, which she wasn’t in the mood to try and break today. Instead, her eyes landed on one of the new transfers, who she had been particularly intrigued by. The whole nonsense with Lucien Dubois and Holland had distracted her from trying to get to know him the past couple of weeks but, Rose decided, now was the time. She walked over to him.

“Hey,” Rose said with a grin, looking up at her taller yearmate. “Do you want to partner up today? My name’s Rose.” Ruben probably knew that, they shared more than one class, but since they had never formally met Rose figured an introduction was appropriate.

    • Let's get this started! - Ruben Lundqvist, Mon Mar 20 19:39
Fighting was easily one of Ruben’s favourite pasttimes. Though he had to be careful who he shared that with sometimes, and more importantly, how he went about phrasing it, especially here. The Swede... more

“You’re on,” Rose flashed a grin at Ruben. She liked challenges. She was usually good at challenges. And although she hadn’t paid enough attention to the new kid to figure out if he was going to be a ... more
        • Bet you can't catch me - Ruben, Wed Mar 29 21:13
Ruben’s smirk didn’t fade. Not when he caught Rose checking him out - if anything, that caused it to broaden and he was more than happy to return the gesture, blue eyes skimming across her body to... more
          • Wanna bet? - Rose, Thu Mar 30 04:54
Ruben dodged her first spell, which Rose was both surprised by and unsurprised by. She had expected him to respond with another spell, mostly because that was what most people did when they dueled.... more
            • Sure, I could use the cash - Ruben, Thu Mar 30 15:57
Rose did wind up dodging his second spell, which he made mental note of. It was always good to know who was willing to play along with him in turning a duel away from pure magic. Because of course... more

                  • Well I'm certainly not losing - Rose, Mon Apr 3 04:42
Oh Merlin, had Ruben just punched a rock ? Rose snorted and tried to prevent herself from entering full-on giggles. Blasting the rock was something she expected, but it took a special kind of person... more
                    • Are you sure about that? - Ruben, Tue Apr 4 01:18
Excellent. He’d caught her. A swell of satisfaction washed over him as he watched his jinx hoist Rose into the air. Technically, his was the first injury, but he didn’t think it exactly counted. She... more
