Don't get too comfortable there

“Not too bad,” Rose acknowledged at Emmett’s punishment. Two weeks of detention wasn’t terrible at all, and twenty house points was nothing. Rose admittedly had never ended up with more than a week of detention and - a fact she was proud of - had never cost her House any points at all, but she tended to do things that were relatively nonoffensive, and she was really good at not being caught doing them. All the years spent sneaking around at home under her dad and stepmothers’ noses came in handy at RMI sometimes. It helped that getting out of the Aquila commons after curfew was a piece of cake. Other Houses (presumably) had to leave their commons in order to find the secret passageways, whereas any relatively observant Aquila had figured out there was an entrance in their commons within the first two and a half weeks of their first year. Most Aquilas were relatively observant.

“I think he was too surprised to cry,” Rose responded to Emmett’s question with a wolfish grin. “I ambushed him in an empty corridor and used the leg-locking curse and the one that makes the little birds fly around your head and peck at you, and just left him there.” Rose wasn’t entirely sure if Lucien had seen who it was that had hexed him, but if he had at least he hadn’t snitched so far. She was pretty sure he had his head too far up his ass to admit to anyone that he’d been bested by someone two years younger than him, but she kind of hoped he hadn’t seen her just in case. Although, she supposed, being hexed by a fifth year might be just as bad if not worse for Lucien than being hexed was. There was a slightly frightening glint in Rose’s hazel eyes as her brain roamed around the conflict with Lucien. Although she wasn’t particularly close to Holland - the Aquila was pretty sure that Holland was closest to Emmett, out of all of them - Rose wasn’t down for people being mean to people she cared about. And she was perfectly willing to go out of her way to make their lives miserable if they tried.

It was nice that Emmett had made him cry though. Getting punched by a fourth year must be even worse than getting hexed by a fifth year. Rose’s grin widened.

Belatedly realizing that there were other things to do in this conversation than be overly pleased with the situation Lucien Dubois had found himself in, Rose returned her attention to Emmett. She brushed a piece of her wild blonde hair back out of her face as she examined the younger boy. He was kind of cute, and Rose found herself returning to the internal questions she’d been having recently. Maybe it was an artifact of Marissa doing things with half the school, but Rose was increasingly questioning who she was attracted to. She didn’t really understand what a crush was, and hadn’t quite gotten up the nerve to ask Marissa about it, in part because Rose had been so irritated with Armaan’s involvement in the party that whenever the topic inevitably came up in discussion with Marissa, Rose’s bad mood immediately emerged. Did she have a crush on Emmett? Marissa wouldn’t mind, Rose was pretty sure. Emmett was a year younger though, and although Josh had been a year younger that had somehow been different.

Ugh, anyway, they were supposed to be talking or something, right? Rose was unsure what to say. Most of her interactions with Emmett tended to be when they partnered in class, and through no fault of Rose’s own, she was generally better than him at whatever they were doing. Plus talking about class at a party was pretty lame. What else was there. Quidditch? They even shared a position, so that was something.

“So how much is Frankie killing you guys at practice?” she asked. Rose was pretty sure that Emmett took Quidditch less seriously than she did - or at least, she had never seen him do supplementary pool practices - but to be fair, most people were, in general, less intense than Rose was at pretty much everything. It was possible that the sixteen year old was incapable of being lowkey about anything. The Aquila team was currently more focused on teambuilding than anything, because Marissa was the kind of captain that planned for the long term, but Rose herself was always working on being the best at her position, spending extra time on the Pitch practicing movies that she had learned from Quidditch magazines.

  • *Loud sigh of relief* - Emmett, Fri Mar 17 20:10
Hm. Rose didn’t seem as fond of the cheese as he was. If he were any more dramatic an individual (if that was possible) he might have considered it a bad omen for a delectable little cute to inspire... more
