Are you worth the wait?

He found Marissa immediately, as she was already looking at him. He had the sort of surprise that a person experiences when they’re thinking about a person and then turn around too quickly and realise that person is standing there staring at them, and then returned Marissa’s smile. The question about her shoes was sufficiently random that he didn’t process it immediately - who lost their shoes? - so when she asked what he was still doing there, Danny was pleased to have a question he could answer easily. “I always help clean up,” he said with a shrug, and a lopsided grin. There were still a couple of stragglers here and there but the party was definitely over now, so he magically directed some torn streamers and used cups and plates into a garbage bag, supporting his given reason for being there. Checking up on Marissa was definitely a secondary consideration, and one that he wasn’t keen to voice.

“Great party, by the way,” he said, and then immediately felt a little awkward afterwards. Of course he would think it had been a great party, as he had spent it pleasantly distracted by Camilla. He hadn’t really noticed much else, if he were being honest. The party could have been terrible for everyone else, he wouldn’t have a clue. “I mean, um, I had a good time,” he amended, and felt that was making things worse, for some reason. Of course he had a good time. He folded his arms awkwardly in front of him. Good Merlin. Unless, of course, Marissa hadn’t noticed what Danny had been doing for the duration of her party. Which was completely possible - probably, even - considering how many people had been present, and that the passageways were dark and the corners were numerous. What difference did it matter if Marissa had noticed or not, anyway? Danny frowned, and then he realised that his thought processes were affecting his facial expression in a manner incongruous to their conversation.

“So, you, um, took your shoes off?” he asked, a little laughter in his voice, dropping his hands more naturally back to his sides. He hadn’t noticed what sort of shoes she had been wearing (he rarely noticed other people’s footwear, anyway, but when he had noticed Marissa on his arrival at the party, he had been far too distracted by the rest of her attire to care about her feet. The same was still true; he would definitely not have noticed her absence of shoes if she hadn’t mentioned it. “I’m wondering if I try to summon your shoes,” he said, “if we will just be attacked by an incoming flock of all the shoes you own, or if we’ll just find the ones we’re looking for. I’m concluding it might be best not to try,” Danny grinned. “I’ll help you find your shoes.”

  • I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long - Marissa Kendrick, Fri Mar 31 22:38
Damn it. Marissa stared at the decorations that had made it to the highest corner of the secret passageways. She was sure there was a spell to bring them down, but she couldn’t remember what they... more
    • Are you worth the wait? - Dardanius, Sat Apr 1 16:33
      • Danny always stayed to clean up; that was true. He was good like that. She couldn’t think of a single time that Danny hadn’t stayed, even when she told him he didn’t have to. This party was... more
        • You're not wrong - Danny, Mon Apr 3 09:04
Dardanius cringed at Marissa’s reminder that he and Camilla had not been especially discreet to begin with; it had, as she said, taken them a while to relocate to the shadows. In his defence, it... more

Teasing Danny helped. It was natural, and he always reacted in a super fun way. Whatever Marissa was feeling right now, she genuinely knew that Danny had not intended for his evening to turn out the... more
            • So what's your take on this? - Danny, Sat Apr 8 16:16
He had only been searching for a short while when Danny’s wandlight illuminated a pair of black and red high-heeled shoes that easily looked as though they could belong to Marissa. They were even the ... more

Wanting Russell around was also about more than giving Russell friends. He needed them, sure, but there was another person at Rocky Mountain International who was going to need more friends. Her... more
                • I'll agree with that - Danny, Sun Apr 9 10:36
He wished he hadn’t said anything. Marissa didn’t seem impressed by his question, and why would she? It really wasn’t his business to ask about her evening’s activities, as she informed him a moment... more
                  • Welp, go us. - Marissa, Sun Apr 9 10:59
She immediately felt bad about her response. She didn’t mean to be rude or whatever. It’s not like her love life had ever been a secret from anyone. Even if she actively tried to keep it a secret, no ... more
                    • Glad that's over - Danny, Sun Apr 9 11:39
Marissa seemed to want to talk at the same time, which was fine, because Danny hadn't been sure he was helping the situation. She was blaming Armaan for making her cranky, which caused him to grin a... more
