Danny always stayed to clean up; that was true. He was good like that. She couldn’t think of a single time that Danny hadn’t stayed, even when she told him he didn’t have to. This party was different, though. She’d planned it with Armaan instead of her friends (a mistake) and the Lyra had been a bit busy. She wouldn’t have blamed him for being distracted and forgetting about clean up. Still, something made her smile a little more. Danny still chose to stay behind and help her instead of following Camilla to wherever on an after-party adventure.

She wasn’t sure why that mattered, though. Like he said, he always helped. This was the normal thing.

“Yeah, you definitely had a good time,” Marissa said, hopefully not sounding too awkward, “I, uh, noticed. Took you two a while to find a dark corner.”

Usually, seeing people pair off at parties brought Marissa a lot of joy. She liked being part of the reason why people made new friends or discovered new interests or just had fun. Contributing to someone’s joy made her feel good and special. Seeing Danny with Camilla hadn’t made her feel that way, though.

Marissa wasn’t one to get crushes. She’d have interests in people, some stronger than others, but not a crush. The red head wasn’t even sure she could identify this Danny thing as a crush. He was one of her friends, and that made her protective of him, especially since she knew more about his lack of intimate experience than probably anyone else. Well, Holland might have known, too. Marissa was usually very supportive when people wanted to make questionable choices, and Camilla had definitely been a questionable choice, so she definitely noticed feeling differently about it.

The subject changed back to her shoes before she had much time to sleepily get lost in her thoughts. It was a welcome change. “Yeah, I took them off for cleaning up because they were getting uncomfortable, but I don’t remember where I left them.” He was right that summoning was a thing, but she wasn’t sure how to specifically summon one pair of shoes. She wasn’t interested in making a bigger mess by turning the passageways into a shoe closet.

Danny agreed to help her find her shoes, which made her smile again. “Okay. Sure, if you want to. You don’t have other places to be?” She managed to return to her normal, teasing grin. “You’re not meeting up with Camilla anywhere?”

              • I'll agree with that - Danny, Sun Apr 9 10:36

                • Welp, go us. - Marissa, Sun Apr 9 10:59
She immediately felt bad about her response. She didn’t mean to be rude or whatever. It’s not like her love life had ever been a secret from anyone. Even if she actively tried to keep it a secret, no ... more
                  • Glad that's over - Danny, Sun Apr 9 11:39
Marissa seemed to want to talk at the same time, which was fine, because Danny hadn't been sure he was helping the situation. She was blaming Armaan for making her cranky, which caused him to grin a... more
