Why am I here?
Wed Jul 12, 2017 20:07

There were a lot of reasons Maverick didn’t want to go to this party. First and foremost, it was a party. Large gatherings of his peers hardly ever ended in his favor. Plus, this was a sleepover party. Maverick was definitely not sleeping among a bunch of virtual strangers, but that did mean if he wanted to not stick out worse than he intrinsically did, he had to wear something resembling pajamas. The closest he was willing to wear was some knee-length basketball shorts, sandals, and a white tank top, the last of which he hid beneath a grey hoodie, both for warmth and for secured comfort. Otherwise he was afraid of the layer beneath becoming visible.

He probably wouldn’t have even bothered going if Holland wasn’t. Maverick had no personal attachment to them thus far, but he did appreciate their existence. It made it easier to gage what he could and couldn’t do around here. Plus, they were a tolerable human being, so that was cool. If he was forced to interact with someone, he preferred someone who was more like him.

This Marissa Kendrick girl was a friend of theirs, it seemed, so that was somewhat reassuring. Mave tended to tread lightly around people Just In Case there would be an issue with him, like, existing, but a promising hostess made him a little less nervous. Even if she did seem by reputation to be a bit of a firecracker. Liking her and her personality was fairly irrelevant. It was too subjective. The fact that Holland seemed to trust her showed a lot more.

For whatever reason, Maverick went. So here he was now, at some weird party in the catacomb-esque bowels of his new school, traipsing about with his contemporaries after curfew. He did have to admit, there was quite a lot of stuff to do here. He was almost tempted by the nail polish on display, but he wasn’t ready to go femme around the school until he was certain that his masculine pronouns were established and cemented; if he got too girly too soon, people might forget and switch up. His somewhat feminine form and bubble gum and mint green hair, while currently in a messy bun on top of his head, already made it difficult sometimes to pass.

Mave immediately strolled over to the snack table, but as he scanned over the options, he began to sense someone looking at him. His eyes left the food and sure enough found someone who appeared to be staring at him. “What?” he asked, instinctively defensive.
