Marissa expected some of her summer stuff to throw Danny for a loop. She doubted he’d been completely innocent during his summer. The red-head was honest about her adventures with the hopes that he’d be honest about his. The idea that he’d done anything with someone else was weird, but it’d be even worse if she didn’t know about it. Even if it made her feel (hypocritically) weird, Marissa would rather know than let her imagination come up with the possible scenarios instead.

Danny seemed to struggle with his smoking jacket, causing him to move around a lot to try and get comfortable. It made Marissa laugh. “Don’t worry, take your time,” she grinned. She reached her hand into the floating popcorn and made a show of getting ready to watch him struggle. She planned on laughing and offering very helpful commentary throughout the process.

She’d finished her small handful of popcorn when Danny decided that the best course of action was to take off his jacket and just be shirtless and then get back under the sleeping bag and put his arm around her.

This was not at all how she’d expected the evening to go.

It wasn’t the first time Danny had been without a shirt around her. They swam sometimes in the Rec Center, and then there was that one time where they had to run an obstacle for class. He’d taken his shirt off then, too. The big difference was the fact that they were now in this very intimate position, his arm was around her, and she could hardly focus on anything else. Marissa leaned into him with a smile, feeling her heart beat a little faster and her face grow just the slightest bit warmer.

“Skinny dipping, huh?”

“Nope, that’s all you’re getting,” she teased, “You haven’t told me anything about your summer.” She nestled a little closer and kissed his cheek. She took his current closeness, plus their brief meeting after the opening feast, as a sign that he didn’t mind her being more…friendly. And she really wanted to be. “I would love to know what you were up to all break, but I’m also totally fine with not talking and watching the movie. Or,” her green eyes darted up to look at the Lyra she was cuddled against, “I’ve seen this movie already so I don’t care if we miss bits and pieces.”
