Emmett snickered at Rose’s sarcastic affirmation of his not-a-lie. “I may have made a suggestion,” he confessed light-heartedly. “I didn’t think he’d actually do it. Can’t say I’m too heartbroken over it, though.” At least, not yet, anyway. He did see Holland rolling their eyes in his direction, so maybe he’d regret it later, but for now, it was probably still worth it? Ruben was annoyed, which was fine, and Russell was embarrassed, which he also didn’t super care about. So it would probably work out okay.

He mostly kept his attention to the scene playing out across the way while he talked to Rose. No harm in literal staring now since Russell had clearly outed him. There was some level of implication, so he had nothing to lose, and he did want to know how this went, since he had masterminded (term used loosely) it all.

“So what inspired that? Suddenly making friends?”

This, however, inspired a redirection of his gaze, as he looked at Rose as if she were a crazy person. (She kinda was, truthfully, but, like, more applicably in this situation.) “Yeah, right,” Emmett scoffed. He felt little need to pretend to be nice about not liking people when there weren’t other people around. Rose was less nice than the others and wouldn’t judge his random condemnations. She would judge him, sure, but probably not for that.

“Honestly he just started talking to me," said the Lyra. "I wanted him to go away and I wanted something to interfere with Holland and Ruben, so it seemed like a win-win. I still can’t believe he actually did.”

Emmett’s startled response made Rose snort in amusement. He was really absorbed in - Rose glanced over at Russell, Holland, and Ruben - whatever that was. It didn’t exactly surprise her. With all the ... more
