Okay so Rose and Emmett were hugging and it was definitely the first time that they’d done this in private. Emmett never initiated anything, presumably because he was terrified that Rose would hex him or something. Which was good, a little fear was good for everyone. Rose never initiated anything because that wasn’t her thing. Initiating physical contact with human beings sounded awful; she hugged her brothers infrequently and their father never. But for whatever reason, this was significantly less awful than Rose had initially anticipated and she briefly saw the appeal of hugs. Then Emmett moved away and she quickly stopped herself from being disappointed that he’d moved. Hugging Emmett had been unexpectedly warm and comfortable, something like hugging - well, Rose couldn’t think of something comparable since Emmett wasn’t exactly fluffy, except for his hair, and he was way too tall to be compared to anything small and cute.

”So then...we’re good?”

With a sigh of relief, Rose nodded, perhaps a little too emphatically. Excellent. Emmett was no longer looking as pathetic as her baby mandrake they’d cared for in Magizoobotany had when she’d forgotten to water it over the weekend, which was a drastic improvement for Rose’s guilt levels. Presumably Emmett also felt better but Rose was fortunately back in a place where she could satisfactorily ignore Emmett’s actual feelings and focus on what impacted her. And she would never admit to anyone that Emmett’s feelings had, even for just two seconds, impacted her.

“We’re good. Let’s go get dinner, I’m hungry. Next time you want to have a weird secret meeting don’t do it before I eat or I might accidentally murder you out of hunger.” Rose grabbed Emmett’s hand and proceeded to tug him down the passageways, towards the entrance that was the unicorn painting close to the Finer Diner. It was technically a little conspicuous for the time of day, but it wasn’t like the secret passageways were a huge school secret and she actually was hungry enough to not mind bowling over a few first-years as the painting opened, if that was what had to happen. Of course, if one of those first-years happened to be Kit Kendrick, she’d probably think it was hilarious anyway. Marissa’s little sister was possibly the weirdest kid in the school, and both of Rose’s brothers went to RMI.

The initial “No” surprised him, but he was more thrown off by the way Rose seemed to go back and forth. Rose always seemed to know what she wanted, and she had a formed, steady opinion on most... more
