This place that is here

This time Jesse knew he was not imagining the disembodied voice as it replied to his call. "Hallo? Where are you?" it said.

“If I knew that, I wouldn’t be lost,” Jesse said clearly as he started to move towards the voice. It sounded young, like perhaps another student, and not a ghost after all. The other student might know a way out of the passageways, which would be a beneficial thing to find before too much time had elapsed, because although Jesse wasn’t in any immediate discomfort, he was starting to feel a little hungry, and walking around and around in unintentional circles had not helped him to better find his way around this labyrinth of dark corridors with any greater proficiency.

Of course perhaps the disembodied voice just sounded like a student because it wanted actual students to think it was one of them, and lure them towards it. That wasn’t a train of thought Jesse wanted to ride all the way to the next station, so he jumped and rolled into a more pleasant - and more likely, he convinced himself - scenario where the voice was a real student who was laden with a large basket full of food. That was something towards which he would not mind heading.

A few steps towards a not-quite-a-corner but not-quite-straight-on brought a dim blue light into Jesse’s view. He lowered his wand for a moment, casting the dim glow from his lumos spell onto the floor instead of out in front of him. There was definitely a blue glowing thing, and a smallish person holding it. It didn’t look like they had a picnic, but neither did it look like this was a trap.

“Are you lost, too?” Jesse asked, raising his wand again to better illuminate the other figure, who definitely looked like one of the other students in the beginner class. The Draco lowered his wand from their face quickly so as not to temporarily blind them with his wandlight, casting it centrally above them both instead, making little difference in the dingy corridor beyond making his pale skin, and dark hair and eyes, appear yet more greatly contrasted than usual.
