Getting off the grid

Drew pointed out that Kit absolutely was not the person to measure normalcy against, and she couldn’t help but laugh and make a face at him. Point taken. It still felt weird that Kit was experiencing dating and - Merlin knew what else, the Draco didn’t even want to think about it. One of the fears she’d buried deep, deep down into her subconscious where she hoped it would never escape was the worry that Kit would have remained curious about the book she’d accidentally read and look into it. Remington almost shuddered and shoved that right back down. Nope, that never happened, she never accidentally showed Kit smut in the theater, that would just be ridiculous.

“And it could be worse. Connor could have written a love rap for you.”

“Oh no, you’re right,” Remington laughed a little more. She almost wished that she was the one Connor intended to ask out, just so she didn’t miss it when he performed. If he had the balls to do it, it was going to be a complete and utter disaster. She didn’t necessarily take pleasure in other people’s pain, but this was Connor Farnon who used racial slurs and actively tried to ruin her and Dade’s friendship (she was managing that just fine on her own, thanks). She could absolutely make an exception.

Remington wasn’t sure where she stood on the opinion that dating was meant to be fun. As far as she knew, based on her very limited experience, it sounded stressful. That probably was because she hadn’t found the right person to try it out with, but still. It was a lot of work. It was makeup and hair and outfit planning and decisions about where to go and what to do. For someone with a schedule as full as hers, the idea of adding time for another person was daunting.

“Fine,” she conceded, “Don’t worry, I’m definitely not settling for Malachi. That clearly was a mistake.” She sighed. “I don’t have time for all of this anyway, you know? I’ll just stick with classes and self-defense club and everything else. Maybe I’ll find someone in, what, college?” She grinned a little. “Yeah, my dad would actually be thrilled if I held off until college. Or grad school. Not like there’s anyone here interested, anyway.”

The dark skinned girl nudged Drew’s shoulder with hers. “Thanks. I… feel a little better. Still not ready to go to Draco in case he’s sitting in the commons, but I don’t super feel like sitting here crying all night anymore.”
