Estelle was in the waddling stage of her pregnancy now. This was displeasing to her. She was also at only five-ish months pregnant, which meant that she had literally almost a hundred more days to go. This was also displeasing to her. The end goal of all this hassle was, of course, super exciting for their little family, but it was getting harder and harder for her to stay focused on their soon-but-not-soon-enough future as a family of four when her feet were puffed up, and her back hurt, and she couldn’t sleep more than a couple hours at most before having to wake up and clumsily roll to her other side.

Overall, the Australian was just more grumpy than excited, which had hardly boded well for her Cultural Studies students. Pop quizzes had become so frequent it almost defeated the purpose (note the word ‘almost’. She could still keep them on their toes by throwing multiple quizzes out in a single class, or making them deliver the answers in spontaneous oral presentations rather than individual tests on paper). But some of the students seemed to have been scared into doing better work as a result, so that was great.

Standing inside the entrance of the Dining Hall, hands buried in the pockets of her oversized knit cardigan, Estelle scowled across the room at large. Having swapped out her dragonhide boots for a pair of fuzzy koala slippers, which made her appear far less intimidating than she liked but were both extra-comfortable and actually fit her swollen feet, the normally short brunette was now at her natural less-than-five-foot height. This was making it hard for her to see where Samuel Boot had gotten to. Estelle had agreed to help supervise the Breakfast Day but had arrived late - totally acceptable, considering her condition. Presumably Samuel was already here, but the man was just slightly insane, so who really knew?

She might as well eat while she was here. With a huff of annoyance at having to move, she began waddling across to the nearest cooking station, brown eyes keeping keen watch of her surroundings. Thus far, she couldn’t see any coffee-pots and she would much prefer to keep it that way, since coffee was one of those smells that disagreed with her strongly. This was also something displeasing to her. Estelle loved coffee in the morning. Hmph.

Not trusting herself to cook in the slightest, she put in a special request for two cardamom-seasoned crepes folded around a mismatched tower of kiwis and pickles with sharp cheddar and a swirl of chocolate sauce on top. The elf agreed to bring it to her table when it was done, so Estelle waddled off again, searching for a table against the wall so that she could stare out over the room and keep watch for students running with knives or initiating food fights or any other dumb thing teenagers might do.

Since she had arrived late, the Diner was pretty full, but Estelle found an open seat at a table with some students. They would possibly not want to have a professor sitting with them. She didn’t care and sat down anyways, letting out a small sigh of relief at the sudden lack of weight on her feet. Apparently it had taken her long enough to waddle around that her breakfast was ready. “Ah, thanks,” she nodded to the elf that had popped up beside her. The plate was piled high, blocking part of the text on her Ironic Maternity Shirt. Her younger brother Cooper had made the shirt for her as a joke, but he’d spelt the word heartburn as heatburn, because he was the special type of idiot who could build a robot but couldn’t follow a dictionary.

Leaning over awkwardly to reach the table over her belly, Estelle began shoveling food in, studiously ignoring the students at the table. She only glanced their way when one of the students spoke to her. Knowing her luck, it was probably one of her Cultural Studies students wanting to complain about their grades without justification...

  • All-Day Breakfast [all welcome] - Professor Samuel Boot, Mon Apr 10 15:47
For the record, Samuel Boot had not volunteered to be involved with this event. Samuel Boot just wanted to eat his pancakes by himself, in peace, the way it should be. The way it had always been. But ... more
    • I think things are getting Hairy for me - Marissa Kendrick, Thu Apr 13 20:43
Marissa was tired. She’d thrown her party just a little bit before Footloose was ready to open. She knew how busy hell week would be, so it was nice to blow off some steam before that. She didn’t get ... more

“Connooooor!” Upon sight of the classic glass jar sitting innocently among the table of syrups and jams and other goodies, Marley had gotten so excited that she had almost dropped her plate. Thank... more
      • No that's really okay - Connor Farnon, Thu Apr 13 19:48
The concept of all-day breakfast was entirely unappealing to Connor. It sounded like a messy affair that had the entire school there, and he was very selective about his company so the idea of the... more
        • But you'll miss out! - Marley, Fri Apr 14 03:06
Despite her excitement, she blushed a little when he thanked her, and for the umpteenth time since the party she sent Wordless Grateful Thoughts in the direction of her dad's African family, who were ... more
          • I'm somehow okay with that - Connor, Fri Apr 14 20:20
This was all going terribly and when Marley asked him if he trusted her, Connor couldn’t even make a sound of dissent. Of course he didn’t trust her. He wouldn’t trust her with Dade’s puffskein, and... more
            • You'll change your mind - Marley, Sat Apr 15 12:28
Hadn’t she told him that already? “You can put it on something, or eat it plain,” Marley repeated, confused by his confusion. It wasn’t that complicated. Just like she’d explained to him at the... more
              • Oh right. Marley had mentioned that the way to eat Cheese Whiz was either on its own or on something before - Connor had lost it in the mess of words that constantly tumbled out of his yearmate’s... more
                • I am optimistic about this - Marley, Tue Apr 18 13:16
“Well, this is a pancake breakfast, duh,” Marley pointed out cheerfully. “So that’s why I got you some plain pancakes. Plain pancakes are basically toast. Like, they’re all just bread.” Really,... more
                  • Among the other things that Marley seemed to think were correct that were objectively not apparently included the role of toast in a breakfast. Connor was of the strict opinion that anything called... more

Connor apparently hadn't seen the humour of the pun that was literally right in front of him. (She conveniently forgot that she hadn't directly pointed it out to him, but she would probably realize... more
                      • I refuse - Connor, Wed Apr 19 11:16
Marley sighed at him and Connor scowled right back at her. It wasn’t his fault that she thought touching food with her hands was acceptable. He had manners and knew better. Admittedly it wasn’t... more
                        • That's not allowed - Marley, Wed Apr 19 22:41
Connor insisted that he wasn't scared, which Marley hadn't really expected because he was generally such an honest person. Maybe not an open person. He was really quiet, and when people were really... more
                          • But consider: what if it was - Connor, Thu Apr 20 04:42
In the midst of his coughing, the last thing Connor had expected was for Marley to come up and whack him on the back, which was of course precisely why she did so. He was too busy coughing to glare,... more
                            • Nope. I'm putting my foot down. - Marley, Fri Apr 21 00:08
Connor kept coughing for a bit, even after he took some sips of the orange juice. Was that a bad sign? Had her whack been unlucky enough to actually put him in a worse spot? Concerned, Marley kept... more
    • Feeling Flat as a Pancake - Dardanius Dubois, Thu Apr 13 09:36

          • Oh cool, it looked like she’d confused him. Kaye wasn’t surprised; she took a bit of pride in being able to confuse people. She’d spent quite a bit of her life being teased and bullied. It started... more
            • It apparently would take more than a brief interaction for Danny to figure out how to talk to Kaye. He didn’t expect her to care what was causing his subdued mood, but he didn’t think she would grin... more
              • Like? - Kaye, Thu Apr 20 20:39
Kaye wondered what other sweet crepes she could get the house elves to make. Nutella and strawberries was a very good go-to, but there were so many other options. For a Muggle branded food, it was... more

      • Crepes for me, please - Holland Keene, Tue Apr 11 00:12
