Crepes are flatter, so it could be worse

Kaye was very excited about special breakfast food, but she wasn’t so excited about the pajamas. The event in the Finer Diner wanted them to come get the glorious breakfast food while dressed in their normal nightwear, and there were two problems with that. One, she was pretty sure that she wasn’t actually allowed to come to the Diner wearing nothing, which is how she usually slept. The second thing was even more annoying. Kaye didn’t wear her wigs to bed, and there was no way she was going to come to this school wide event bald.

She didn’t come to the Diner wearing any kind of fancy pajamas. She put on a pair of grey, baggy sweatpants and threw a t-shirt on over that. After careful consideration, she opted out of wearing her usual wig. This was a School Event, or something, so she might as well wear something interesting. She eventually chose a forest green wig that was styled like a bob with bangs. It was definitely different from what she usually wore, and it required no styling effort whatsoever.

The fourth year made her way from Aquila to the Diner, slightly surprised by the turn out. When Rocky Mountain International students had the chance to do things together, they really showed up. Was it a school spirit thing, or was the breakfast food and lazy dress code just too tempting to ignore?

Whoever planned the event had outdone themselves, Kaye decided, while she grabbed a plate of Nutella and strawberry crepes and a sugary mocha. It felt like a sugary kind of morning, and a chocolate kind of morning, so this balanced out. She didn’t have many friends yet; the one person she naturally gravitated towards was busy with one of the Aquila fifth year girls. She spotted an empty seat at a mostly empty table and went for it.

There wasn’t really any response from the guy when she sat down. It gave her time to place him. Even though she didn’t really know anyone, she was starting to be able to identify people. The school was smaller than other schools she’d gone to; it wasn’t hard to start putting names and faces together at this point in the semester. This was Danny Du-something, a pretty boy who seemed chill, wore bright clothes, and was friends with the popular group that was nicer than your usual Popular Group.

He didn’t seem very nice right now, though. A little distracted. Maybe he was in a bad mood.

“Hey,” Kaye said after swallowing a mouthful of chocolate and strawberries, “Who pissed in your cheerios this morning?”

Getting out of bed seemed more of an effort that morning than usual, so it was definitely lucky that wearing pyjamas to breakfast was not only welcomed, but encouraged on that particular day. It... more

While he had looked up when someone had joined him at the table, it wasn’t one of his friends, and Danny had no idea whether Kaye was likely to speak to him or not (he had barely spoken to Ruben, who ... more

Kaye wondered what other sweet crepes she could get the house elves to make. Nutella and strawberries was a very good go-to, but there were so many other options. For a Muggle branded food, it was... more

He would concede that his own meal was sweet, and certainly more so than his usual selections. “I usually go for more savoury stuff,” Danny offered an explanation for his reaction to Kaye’s crepes.... more
