Connor insisted that he wasn't scared, which Marley hadn't really expected because he was generally such an honest person. Maybe not an open person. He was really quiet, and when people were really quiet it usually meant that either they didn't have anything to say or didn't have anything they wanted to say. But he always answered her questions and was helpful in conversations, both by being a good listener and by sometimes offering his own opinions even when they were a little different from hers, and in that way he was absolutely an honest type. She felt pretty lucky that Connor and Claudia, two of her closest friends at RMI (excluding some of the students that she spent more time with, of course, like the Lyra Quidditch team and the theatre club), both fell in that category.

Connor further insisted that he wasn't cute, which Marley really hadn't expected precisely because he was an honest person. So he should've known that arguing with someone who thought you were cute was dumb and wouldn't change their mind anyways. And he also should know that her telling him he was cute had been kind of an accident and kind of embarrassing and him dragging it on wasn't gonna help. And he-- Was he blushing? At the sight of his definitely redder face, she could feel herself reddening even more, like one of those annoying but uncontrollable reflexes. Aww. Also yes. Also wow. Also what did that mean? Marley only ever really blushed when she was around someone who was cute, so...

Ohmygoodness, did Connor have a crush on her too? This was, like, so amazing, and so perfect! She'd had crushes on a lot of boys before, because there were just a lot of nice cute boys who got her attention, but never-had-they-ever had a crush on her back. In the movies, when two characters realized they both had a crush on each other, that usually meant that the movie was gonna get a little awkward for a bit and then a lot happy as they realized that they didn't have to hide it and could have a real capital-R Relationship like they were supposed to.

"See, it didn't kill you." Marley said this automatically, since Connor had finally eaten the Cheese Whiz, but it was still infused with plenty of genuine cheer, since Connor had finally eaten the Cheese Whiz. Ever capable of holding five mental conversations with herself, she was simultaneously rewinding all the rom-coms that she could remember. Because now that she knew Connor thought she was nice and cute (at least, she assumed that was why he had a crush on her because that was why she had a crush on him), well, what was she supposed to do next? Trying to imagine them as actors ia rom-com should help her figure that out.

Unfortunately, it was at this moment that Connor decided to start dying. "Connor! It wasn't supposed to actually kill you!" she yelped as her co-star friend started choking. Oh no oh no this was Bad (that's bad, that's bad, really really bad, her inner movie monologue helpfully and inappropriate supplied via song). Marley knew there were healing charms, and there was probably something to help with choking, but she didn't know what it was! She didn't even know how to do the Heimlich yet! Connor managed to spit out the pancake, though, which was a huge relief, except he kept coughing. "Um, um, um..." Lost for what to so, Marley whacked him hard on the back with her hand to dislodge whatever he might still be choking on, and then immediately yelped again, this time at herself. "I'm sorry, you're not supposed to hit choking people 'cause it makes it worse - oh, here!" She stopped rambling, frantically grabbed her orange juice, and shoved it at him.

  • I refuse - Connor, Wed Apr 19 11:16
Marley sighed at him and Connor scowled right back at her. It wasn’t his fault that she thought touching food with her hands was acceptable. He had manners and knew better. Admittedly it wasn’t... more

      • But consider: what if it was - Connor, Thu Apr 20 04:42
In the midst of his coughing, the last thing Connor had expected was for Marley to come up and whack him on the back, which was of course precisely why she did so. He was too busy coughing to glare,... more

Connor kept coughing for a bit, even after he took some sips of the orange juice. Was that a bad sign? Had her whack been unlucky enough to actually put him in a worse spot? Concerned, Marley kept... more
