Ruben
Oh, good; can we get back to my thing now?

Holland’s announcement that hen had questions came as no surprise, of course, and he made a sort of go ahead gesture, crossing a nod with a slight hand-wave. The way that Holland approached hens set of questions was also not really surprising. Whether verbal or written, Ruben wasn’t fond of long lists of questions; his English was good, but it was still a challenge sometimes for him to keep track of separate ideas and stuff. Fortunately, the first half of Holland’s questions were all about EJ and the Frenchie, and the second half were all about Camilla. He could probably keep from mixing that up.

Although he would be mixing up the order, because he had to address the most important matter first.

“I know not. I think that she did it nonverbal.” Ruben had been busy happily dodging her bigger attacks and hadn’t caught any warning about what Camilla was planning until he’d spotted his braid sitting beside his feet. “I just felt my head being light, then, the floor, it was--” Voice creeping into a whine, he cut himself off grumpily, unable to properly phrase his fury at what the older girl had done to him. “But it is not only cut, it is all gone.” He wasn’t about to remove his hat and expose his scalp to the whole room, but he did push his hood off and tug the hat to the side so that Holland could see the shiny, empty skin about his ear. It annoyed him further that he could feel his cheeks reddening, but he reminded himself that it wasn’t actually embarrassment at the person he liked seeing him in this state. It was just anger. (And if he was a bit embarrassed, too, well, surely hen could understand that.)

It made sense to just keep talking about Camilla at this point, so he did so. “Camilla only saw me, on purpose. Because I would take the credit, ja? I came to her first while Rose was behind. It made sense.” He shrugged it off dismissively. Logic was an important part of combat, and it was an aspect which he prided himself on being aware of, as versus the majority of teenagers who just tried to hit people without thinking it through first. If everyone just read up more on war history in school and took a few lessons from it, interactions like that would go smoother and life overall would be a lot more straightforward, too, in his opinion. There were only two categories of books that Ruben genuinely dove into: spellbooks and books about war. That was all he really needed.

Uh, what were the rest of hens questions? Ruben leaned forward to request a drink and snagged the newly-filled glass from the table. Taking a sip of chocolate milk, he stretched out his legs more comfortably under the table, caught a glimpse of his checked shoes, was then reminded of his sturdier red high-tops, and in this way, came back to the topic of Lucien Dubois. “I heard the fight, and that is how I found EJ,” he explained. “He was not really in a talking way then, but he did not refuse me from joining.” Another shrug, expressing the same indifferent and that’s the facts as the first. “I did not yet know what EJ was holding against him, but I did hear of how big a skitstövel Lucien was.” The English equivalent escaped him. Holland would get the idea there, he assumed. “To you, also. Everyone was talking of it. So of course I helped EJ. It was right.” He took a swig of the milk again, humming at the sweetness, and wiped the mustache off before turning back to Holland. “Will you try to help with my hair, now?”
